About EPSG:4326 — WGS 84 (GPS Geographic Coordinates)

EPSG:4326 is the geographic WGS84 system used by GPS and many web services. Coordinates are latitude and longitude in degrees, not projected metres.

When to use EPSG:4326

Use WGS84 to share positions with GNSS devices, web maps, GeoJSON, and services such as Google Maps. For accurate local distance calculations, reproject to a suitable metric CRS.

Important check before conversion

Axis order and units matter: longitude is usually X and latitude is Y, both in decimal degrees. UTM-style map display must not be mistaken for EPSG:4326.
